This two part masterclass is a special opportunity for Dublin based jazz musicians to avail of the combined performance and teaching experience of leading American players, all of them currently active as faculty members in prestigious US universities. The masterclass is focussed toward experienced players who have been active for some time or have completed studies elsewhere, such as the LGSM or equivalent.
The morning session will comprise a 2 hour group instrumental clinic in piano, saxophone, bass and drums, with a maximum of 5 particpants in each group. A further 2 hour afternoon session with feature the quartet in its entirety, and will focus on aspects of group performance, and is limited to 25 participants.

About The Faculty:
Palmetto recording artist David Berkman is an award-winning
composer/bandleader (2000 Doris Duke/Chamber Music America New Works
Creation and Presentation Grant, 1995 Hennesy Jazz Search), and has
appeared on numerous best records of the year critic's lists including
the New York Times, Village Voice, Downbeat, JazzIz and Jazz Times. He
has performed and taught at universities and conservatories across
the United States and Europe, and is currently a Faculty member of The
North Netherlands Conservatory, Groningen.
In addition to
leading his own quartet, he has played in countless bands including
those of Cecil McBee, Tom Harrell and the Vanguard Orchestra and has
performed, recorded and composed on behalf Sonny Stitt, Billy Hart,
Joe Lovano, Ray Drummond, Brian Blade, Fathead Newman, Hank Crawford, ,
Billy Drewes, Craig Handy, Nasheet Waits, Scott Hamilton, Chris Cheek,
Hammiet Bluette, Tony Malaby and Matt Wilson,
Dick Oatts is greatly respected within New York's tightly knit jazz community, borne of three decades experience in the alto chair with Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, The Vanguard and Carnegie Hall jazz orchestras. In addition to nine CDs as a leader for the Steeplechase, DMP and Red labels, he has recorded and toured with small groups led by Eddie Gomez, Bob Brookmeyer, Fred Hersh, Jerry Bergonzi, Dave Douglas, Jack McDuff and more. Oatts has also been a featured soloist with the Stockholm Jazz Orchestra., Danish Radio Big Band, Berlin RIAS Big Band, Rome Radio Big Band, and Finland;s UMO Big Band . A consummate all rounder, he has accompanied vocalists Sara Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Nneena Freelon, Mel Torme, and Milton Nascimento and pop artists Luther Vandross, JamesTaylor,
He has been active as a clinican throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia,South America, and the Middle East, and is currently a faculty member of NYU and The Manhattan School of Music.
Germany's Johannes Weidenmuller has been a New York resident since 1991, and is among the most active and in demand bass players in the NY jazz scene. Last heard in Ireland with The Kenny Werner Trio, he is also currently active with Hank Jones Trio, John Abercrombie quartet and the Joe Lovano trio. Other associations include Eddie Henderson, Dewey Redman, Randy Brecker, Kenny Wheeler, Toots Thielemans, George Benson, Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Gary Bartz, Jonny Cole Clifford Jordan, Joe Chambers, and many others.
As an educator, Johannes has been on the faculty of the New School's jazz and contemporary music program since 1997 where he teaches bass and ensemble. He is also a member of the faculty at the Mannes college of music and has taught workshops and clinics at the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts. He is also the author of a book and DVD on metric modulation to be published by Mel Bay in 2005
Although Gerald Cleaver has been a highly regarded musician and
educator in Detroit since the early '90s, It is only in recent years
that his extraordinary playing abilty and approach have reached a
wider audience, especially within the context of free improvisation.
Dividing
his time between Detroit and NYC, Cleaver has worked with a lengthy
list of important jazz figures including Roscoe Mitchell, Henry
Threadgill, Jacky Terrasson, Hank Jones, Tommy Flanagan, Charles Gayle,
Reggie Workman, and Eddie Harris. Current projects include The Joe
Morris Quartet, The Matthew Shipp Quartet and his own sextet Veil of
Names, which includes guitarist Ben Monder, violinist Mat Maneri,
bassist Reid Anderson and pianist Craig Taborn.
He is currently a member of the jazz faculty at The Universtiy of Michigan.
