Gato Azul

Last spotted opening for Chico Pinheiro in Whelans, Gato Azul draw  inspiration from the great river of sound that is Brazil, performing sambas, choros and forro from the Northeast alongside legacy pieces by great Brazilian composers like Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti and Guinga. Its also the latest project from the industrious Italian Francesco Turrisi, now developing a reputation as an accordionist and frame drummer par excellence to match his well documented piano capabilities. Joining him are two thirds of Irish crossover group Puck Fair, the renowned flautist Brian Dunning and percussionist Robbie Harris, who’s bodhran sounds remarkably at home in this rhythmic terrain, and Lucas Gonzalez, an exceptional Argentinean guitarist now resident in Dublin, who brings authenticity and a flamencoesque brio to the table.
