IMC Regional Touring Support Scheme

Regional Touring Support for Irish Jazz musicians

What is RTS?

RTS is an IMC initiative which responds to the challenge facing jazz musicians in Ireland in identifying new performance opportunities. RTS aims to provide financial support for jazz musicians creating new projects for performance outside the Dublin area, with a view to developing stronger links between musicians and audiences throughout the country, implemented through a network of partner venues.

How much are the awards?

Individual awards will be made up to €1000.

What is a Partner Venue?

These are venues that have agreed to participate in the RTS Scheme, with the award acting as an incentive for them to book your project, by absorbing some of the costs involved and making it possible for you to negotiate a fee that encourages the partner venue to include your project in their programme.

Who are the partner venues?

Partner venues for 2008 - 2009 include, but are not limited to:
• Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray
• Garter Lane Arts Centre, Waterford
• Triskel Arts Centre, Cork
• Galway Jazz Club
• Dunamaise Arts Centre, Portlaoise
• Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, Co Mayo
• The Glens Centre, Manorhamilton, Leitrim
• Solstice Arts Centre, Navan.
• Moving On Music, Unit 2, Weavers Court Business Park, Linfield Road, Belfast, BT12 5GH
• Regional Cultural Centre, Port Rd., Letterkenny, Co Donegal
• Limerick Jazz Society, 5 Blackthorn Drive Caherdavin Limerick

*See venue contact details at foot of this page*

Who can apply?

The scheme is open to jazz musicians throughout Ireland who can demonstrate a sound artistic rationale and the necessary level of experience to bring their project to a successful conclusion. While applications from 3rd parties (eg. agents) are not excluded, we encourage musicians to apply directly on their own behalf.

How often can I apply?

You can apply as often as you wish in any twelve month period, with a maximum of three successful awards to any one applicant in the same period.

What are the criteria?

RTS aims to encourage the development of new directions and will favour, for example, applicants who submit proposals for new or established soloists and ensembles performing original compositions, performances with visiting jazz soloists, collaborations with performers from other disciplines or special projects of music focused around a specific composer or theme.

Who evaluates applications?

All applications will be assessed by a rotating panel of three, comprising two independent assessors and a member of IMC's Board of Directors. All decisions will be final, and all applicants will be informed in writing of the outcome of their application within two weeks of the closing date.

How do I apply?

Fill in the online application form to be found here or email ronan(at)improvisedmusic(dot)ie for an application form.

We aim to keep the application process simple, and we'll be asking you for a brief description of your project and participating musicians, your proposed performance period, and a budget with your estimated artistic/production costs.

When is the Deadline?

To encourage flexibility in the dialogue between musicians and partner venues, the RTS panel will meet four times a year to evaluate applications.

The deadlines for 2008 - 2009 are:

*Please note your touring period should be at least 3 months out from the Application deadline.
