12 Points! sets out its stall to find new talent from across Europe, and in Albatrosh , the duo of pianist Eyolf Dale and tenor saxophonist Andre Roligheten, we've found two remarkable young musicians. Both are in their early twenties, yet a striking level of compositional and technical confidence is evident in this pairing, who are still attending music academies in Norway. They're equally unfazed by the artistic demands of working within the austere soundscape of piano and tenor alone, and are comfortable with the lyrical introspection that we associate with Norwegian jazz as well as the restless free elements that preoccupy the new generation there. They're also 2008's recipients of Norway's Jazz Intro prize, awarded at the prestigious Molde Festival.
