We like innovation at 12 Points. We like tradition too, and Berliner Charlotte Greve favours the latter and it’s emphasis on linear development, harmony and swing. Just twenty when she formed this quartet, there is already ample evidence to suggest that her artistic trajectory is on the right track and Grow, her 2009 debut CD (Challenge) is a remarkably self assured debut for a developing artist. In her use of motifs and refined sound, she evokes the lucid charms of masters like Lee Konitz, and tutelage with musicians like Dave Binney has clearly been well absorbed too. Experience and youth go well together and the Lisbeth Quartet includes established figures on the Berlin scene, bassist Marc Muellbauer and drummer Moritz Baumgärtner, and another name for the future in the impressive young pianist Manuel Schmiedel.
