When drummer Matt Jacobson isn’t indulging an interest in anagrams, palindromes and word play, he writes equally quirky tunes, full of rhythmic preoccupations, deft changes of direction, and inviting spaces for his bandmates to occupy. Bassist Derek Whyte, saxophonist Nick Roth and trombonist Colm O’Hara don’t wait to be asked twice, and collective they are four of the strongest emerging voices on the Irish jazz scene. The two horns, no chords structure is well suited to RedivideR’s creative agenda of downtown grooves with catchy melodies that shape the improvisational contours, and there’s a debut album on the way later this year.
