Apple Crumble

Inspired by John Abercrombie, Dave Holland and the Gateway Trio, the quality ingredients in this piping hot trio are guitarist Jonathon O’Donovan, the latest in a distinguished line of Irish guitarists, with an approach to the instrument reminiscent of Abercrombie himself, organist Justin Carroll, whose musical projects range from the award winning Organics trio to stints with Van Morrisson and drummer Cormac Larkin, a prominent figure in the Dublin scene for many years, well known for leading his own groups.

Gateway’s contemporary approach to the trio, reconciling open improvisation with great rhythmic purpose, has been hugely influencial, and Apple Crumble pay tribute to their formative influence on staples like Abercrombie’s Labour Day and Dave Holland’s Homecoming.
