Baba Salah Trio

Following a visit from Afel Bocoum and Alkibar in the early part of the year, we yet again draw from this deep well of musical and rhythmic tradition so ingrained in the day to day life of Mali, West Africa.

Its latest export to this island is Baba Salah, an energetic yet soulful guitarist with a silky tenor voice and unique guitar style. An accomplished acoustic guitarist, his solo playing is lyrical and moving. He has recently won a number of awards in his native country including “Best New Artist”, “Most Promising Revelation of the Year” and “Best Group of the Festival au Désert”.

Like many of his Malian contemporaries, Salah is very committed to promoting peace and reconciliation through music, singing about those issues which most deeply affect his people.

With a repertoire both accessible and musically accomplished Salah proves an innovative player who clearly displays his roots in the “desert blues” and indeed the entirety of his Malian heritage and culture.
