Francesco Turrisi
Our jazz scene is growing, with welcome visitors from overseas choosing Dublin as their home, and adding to its vibrancy and diversity. Latest to decamp is Italian pianist Franceso Turrisi, a recent graduate of The Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where he formed close Irish bonds, including bassist Johnny Daly with whom he toured here in 2004.
A consummate pianist in the contemporary European vein, he’s also immersed in early music, and is harpsichordist with the highly regarded French ensemble L’Arpegiatta. Concurrently, in recent years he’s been researching and studying the percussion traditions of Southern Italy and the Arabic world. Expect all those diverse influences to be distilled into whose debut performance at The Pendulum with leading Irish players in tow.
