Francesco Turrisi Quartet
A consummate pianist in the modern European vein, Francesco Turrisi is also immersed in early music, and is harpsichordist with the highly regarded French ensemble L’Arpegiatta. Concurrently, in recent years he’s been researching and studying the percussion traditions of Southern Italy and the Arabic world, and exploring the potential of baroque form, melody and harmonic progression as a conduit for jazz improvisation. In the process, he is shaping a personal language where these diverse influences distil down to a coherent and contemporary whole. Michael Buckley (tenor), Ronan Guilfoyle (bass) and Sean Carpio (drums), join this Turin native, a recent and very welcome addition to the Irish jazz scene.
