Greg Felton Quartet, Pendulum, Dublin

The Irish Times rates him as an “exceptional young pianist”, and Greg Felton’s progress through the ranks of Irish jazz is steady and assured, both as instrumentalist in groups like White Rocket and as composer, with recent commissions to the RTE Living Music Festival. His crafted writing offers a diversity of musical ideas from blues pieces inspired by Andrew Hill to modern compositions informed by Dave Liebman. A pleasing equilibrium of accessibility and adventure, he’s convened a muscular quartet that includes Michael Buckley (tenor), Cormac O’Brien (bass) and Sean Carpio (drums).
