Jazz Connector 16th July - Discussing the live music experience

Following on from our last Jazz Connector online meet-up 2 weeks ago, IMC would again like to invite all the communities of people who make up the jazz world in Ireland - musicians, promoters, educators and venues - to come together for an informal Zoom meet-up on Thursday July 16th from 1:30 - 3:00PM to discuss:

The Live Music Experience: When will we be back in venues with an audience, and how can we work together to get there?

If you missed out on the last meeting, you can read all of the talking points that were discussed here.

The Covid-19 crisis has resulted in live music effectively grinding to halt worldwide. As we prepare to move into the final phase of reopening Irish society on July 20th, it’s vitally important that we work together to figure out how to kickstart a return to live performances in a way that is safe for the audience, musicians and background staff involved.

There of course are risks involved, but that’s not the only issue facing venues. Clarity on liability will be needed, as well as a realistic model for keeping events financially viable.

Together, we’ll discuss the best practises going forward and explore alternative ideas to the usual live format.

We’ve invited a few guest voices to share their ideas, concerns & aspirations for the coming year and beyond including:

  • Dave Allen is the Booker/Promoter for Whelan’s and has over 25 years experience in the live music industry.
  • Vinny Casey is a musician (Overhead, The Albatross/Vance Kass) as well as the Venue Manager for The Workman’s Club in Dublin.
  • Tom Doyle is an Event Liaison and Project Manager with Dublin City Council who has lots of experience in working on various events with local authorities.

All of the guest speakers will be expressing their own personal views and will not be speaking on behalf of their various companies/employers.

Please register your interest below to attend. You can also let us know if there are any particular topics that you would like us to cover in this or future discussions. Places are limited so be sure to let us know if you’d like to join in!
