Jeremy Sawkins Trio

Anyone lucky enough to hear saxophonist Jamie Oehlers during his Irish stay last summer will be in no doubt as to the calibre of the Australian jazz scene, and now comes fellow antipodean, guitarist Jeremy Sawkins, who's made an equally big impression since arriving in Ireland, and makes an overdue debut as leader with this outing.

Sawkins' tonal approach invites comparison with contemporary players like John Scofield, but equally there is an individual signature at work to imply a musician of substance and originality.

Highly regarded back home, here Sawkins adapts music from his Rufus/Universal release Southpaw for an organ trio blow with fellow ex pat, US drummer John Mele and Hammond specialist Justin Carroll.
