NY Now: The Story - Pendulum

NY NOW: The Story

A Brit, a Dutchman, two Canadians and an American are the musical characters in this second chapter in The Pendulum’s 2010 engagement with happening music from New York. This Brooklyn based band attest to the international aspect at the heart of the city’s jazz scene and their collective approach might also tell us the loft aesthetic is alive and well. From their home base The 55 Bar, the Greenwich Village venue where a new generation of players is being mentored on the bandstand by artists like Dave Binney, Ari Hoenig and Wayne Krantz, news of the Story has crossed the Atlantic with summer appearances at The North Sea and other prestige festivals. Their eponymous debut CD has made waves too, praised by All About Jazz as “one of the more memorable debuts of the year, filled with kinetic energy and forward thinking.” Passion from the soloists meets typical rhythmic intensity on tunes that go for the anthemic jugular and remember the names – saxophonists Lars Dietrich and Samir Zarif, pianist John Escreet, bassist Zach Lober and drummer Greg Ritchie.
