Phuse

Squarepusher and Aphex Twin have played as much a part as Coltrane and Miles in the evolution of Phuse, who explore a singular path on the Dublin music scene in bridging the loose structures of jazz and improvised music with the rhythmic conventions of drum ‘n’ bass and hip hop. The constant has been bassist Gavin Lockhart, who also provides the electronics and live sampling that are an integral part of the band’s tonal spectrum. He’s drafted in some of the city’s best jazz talent to record Phuse’s second CD Mingus Lingers, and joining him for this launch outing for the new studio offering are Darragh O’Kelly (keys), Brian Wynne (saxophones) and Dennis Cassidy (drums).
