First Pendulum outing for this recently formed quartet led by drummer Matt Jacobsen, demonstrating that his brother Daniel isn't the only with the compositional smarts. The formula here is downtown grooves, quirky melodies and collective improv informed by such eclectic sources as Tim Berne, Charles Mingus, Vijay Iyer, Marc Ducret, , Phil Ivey and Squarepusher. Joining one of most promising young drummers in town are alto saxophonist nick Roth, guitarist John Kregor and bassist Derek Whyte.
