Rise Saxophone Quartet
Four of Ireland's best reedmen convene here for a journey into the unique sonic terrain of the saxophone quartet. Formed in 2004, Rise are growing in stature in this demanding idiom with every outing, and recent projects have included an Arts Council commission that opened the Sligo Jazz Project 2008 with Julian Arguelles as guest soloist. Their current, all original programme Rats Nest marks a new chapter for Rise, as the group evolves toward a more open, improvisatory approach, instigated by the group's principle composers sopranoist Cathal Roche and altoist Nick Roth. Joining them are Patrice Brun (tenor) and Ian Finlay (baritone) in this rare opportunity to bask in the rich soundworld of four unaccompanied saxophones.
