Ronan Guilfoyle’s Devsirme
Ronan Guilfoyle won the Julius Hemphill Composition Award in the US for 1997’s Devsirme, recorded by the group of the same name. Since then Devsirme has gone through several incarnations and here he unveils a new edition of the group. In the past, Devsirme has been a byword for intriguing compositions brilliantly executed, with Guilfoyle’s elusive rhythmic signature to the fore, and the 2005 vintage is no exception.
With the composer on bass, Devirme 05 also features two of the finest musicians working on the Dublin scene, pianist Phil Ware and drummer Sean Carpio, and also introduces a relative newcomer in the exceptional Limerick based guitarist Joe O'Callaghan.
