Sarah Buechi's Thali

This Swiss singer has much to share with her students in Newpark Music Centre, where she joined the faculty in 2008. After graduating herself from Lucerne’s prestigious Musikhochschule, she took a lengthy sabbatical in Bangalore immersing herself in South Indian classical music. The results are apparent in her use of its demanding rhythmic and vocal techniques in a jazz context that also reflects the influence of creative singers like Norway’s Sidsel Endressen. She's already making inroads in bridging the two traditions to create an arresting fusion of styles, and has been working with musicians like Kenny Wolleson and Nils Wogram. Here, she debuts her all Swiss band Thali, and joining her on an extensive Irish tour to play music from their freshly minted CD Vidya Mani are baritone sax specialist Matthias Tschopp, pianist Stefan Aeby, bassist Marco Müller and drummer Lionel Friedli.
