Trí60 - Artists in Conversation

Featuring Gerry O'Beirne, Solo Cissokho and Tola Custy with Gerry Godley

Kevin Barry Room, National Concert Hall, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2

Saturday 10th September, 11.00am

Gerry O'Beirne (guitar/tiple/ukulele/slide guitar)

Solo Cissokho (kora)

Tola Custy (fiddle)

Join Gerry Godley as he leads a fascinating discussion with a brilliant array of musicians from across the globe.

This 2-hour event will feature Gerry O'Beirne (guitar/tiple/ukulele/slide guitar), Solo Cissokho (kora) and Tola Custy (fiddle) as they discuss their influences, styles and experiences in a Senegalese/Irish exchange. The artists will have been collaborating for several days in advance of the discussion, so they will share their insights on that unique workshop experience. There will also be a question and answer session when the floor will be open to the audience.

Solo Cissokho is a seventh generation kora player from Casamance in Southern Senegal, and a troubadour of the unique music and culture of the griots, whose culture was at the heart of the mighty Manding empire that once ruled most of West Africa. Today, the griot continues to play a central role in the life of communities there, and Solo sheds lights on this fascinating and vibrant identity which embraces, poetry, music, praise singing and healing.

Globetrotting Clare man Gerry O’Beirne is another polymath, his considerable instrumental gifts at home on every conceivable guitar from dobro to ukelele, as sideman with everyone from Sharon Shannon to the Waterboys and as a much sought after studio producer.

Fiddler Tola Custy brings his experience from bands like Calico and Guidewires to complete the trio. In a country rich in the fiddle tradition, Tola is a talisman for a generation of musicians that bridge Ireland’s tradition to the wider world.

Don’t miss the opportunity to hear this diverse trio in concert at 7:30pm on 10 September at The National Concert Hall!
