Yurodny - Myriada Irish Tour

The warm colours of the Eastern Mediterranean meet the sinuous grooves of the Balkans in this fascinating encounter between Dublin’s Yurodny and Crete’s Myriada.

Though each tradition boasts disinctive nuances, prior to these dates, both groups will engage in a period of collaboration toward a common musical lingua franca, with new compositions that make their debut during the tour.

It’s the latest project from saxophonist Nick Roth, whose imaginative style has yielded a diverse range of Irish music initiatives, including the boundary stretching Kai Big Band and Dublin’s annual klezmer festival. With Yurodny, he blends a rich tapestry of Eastern European folk music with an underlying jazz flair to create a convincing fusion of east and west, studded with bittersweet melodies and infectious Balkan rhythms. They’re joined by Greek quartet Myriada, spearheaded by the evocative voice of Maria Koti, set to the richly textured backdrop of the Greek lyra and traditional framedrums.
