12 Points Talks : Machine Birds (2012) BERGEN
Where do you live and what is the Jazz scene like there?
We are from Bergen, Norway. The jazz scene here is pretty active, there are several jazz clubs that offer a lot of variety. We also have the jazz festival “Nattjazz” which always offers something exciting. There are plenty of places to play in Bergen, so there’s always a lot of concerts around town - which is great for young musicians who want to play as much as possible for a diverse audience.
What was the 12 Points experience been like for you? What does it mean to you as a young musician?
12 points was amazing. It was so nice to be treated like a professional musician! Not many places take such good care of their artists. It was really great to get to play on such a big stage with great sound, and with such a large crowd. It’s amazing for young musicians who are perhaps used to playing for small crowds in small places.
What was the highpoint of the festival – from your own experience?
We were only there for one day (Sunday) so we didn't really get to see much of the festival. But we really liked "Girls in airports". Their concert was really, really good! And we liked the jam session after the concerts. Everyone who was working at the festival were very nice too!
What are your musical plans for 2012? Tell me about gigs, festivals, recording etc
We are playing a couple of gigs here in Bergen in March and April, and we are playing at Kongsberg Jazzfestival this summer. We are also releasing an EP in the beginning of May, and we will be working on our album, which will hopefully be done by next fall.
