Announcing IMC's Incubator artists 2023

Following an open application process, the artists selected for the inaugural edition of Incubator will be Jennifer McMahon and Patrick Groenland. Funding made available through the engagement and generosity of Incubator Champions enables these outstanding artists to devote time into their respective projects and further develop their promising careers. Both Jennifer McMahon and Patrick Groenland will interact regularly with the Champions, with new and exclusive content, regular updates and special access to performances which will be scheduled throughout the year.

Become an Incubator Champion

Incubator is a new way to connect with music in its making. We’re asking you, the Incubator Champions, to support two musicians - Patrick Stefan, and Jennifer McMahon - as they work on long-term projects over the course of a year. When you invest €5 a month (roughly the price of Dublin City latte!) in the Incubator musicians, your contribution will immediately be matched by us, so that with your €5 subscription, you will be investing €10 into supporting new Irish music.

As an Incubator champion - part of the Incubator community - you’ll be involved in the music as it grows and develops, getting special insight into the creative process with private Q&As with Patrick and Jennifer, exclusive vlogs and diaries, chances to chat to your fellow Champions about music and life, and to experience a private premiere performance of the music. With your support, Patrick and Jennifer can explore, experiment, make music that moves us, speaks to us, tells us something.

The Artists

Patrick Stefan

Patrick Stefan is an Irish-Dutch singer and guitarist. Originally from Co. Clare, Patrick painted a unique musical background developing his craft in Brazil, the United States, Finland, Mali and beyond. He has collaborated with some of the top musicians in Ireland and has just released his exceptional album Wayfarer. Patrick’s Incubator project will be an adventure in collaboration and the connection we find in improvisation.

Jennifer McMahon

Jennifer McMahon is a rising songwriter from Dublin who began studying music at the age of 7. Her lyrics are the keystone of her work, and her music illustrates the power of song, exploring personal and collective themes of love, loss, belonging, sensuality, and compassion. Following on from Masters in Contemporary Performance from Berklee College of Music, and BA in Jazz Performance, Jennifer has been releasing powerful compositions over the past few years. Jeni’s Incubator project explores senses of place and space, and how our art interacts with the world around us.

Incubator is a special chance to truly support and engage with the artistic community in Ireland - to be involved both in helping the artist to create, and in seeing how art grows, changes, and develops meaning. We want to help musicians continue to create and refine their music - give them time, space, and support to develop their best work. The resources and additional security of the Incubator programme funding can allow musicians to create and develop, to make music that connects us, lifts our spirits, tells our stories, and speaks the truth.

Remember - every Champion’s funding is matched. If you have friends or family who would be interested in supporting creative musicians, please let them know. Each subscriber is really bringing double their subscription to support the artist!

As an Incubator Champion, your subscription means:

  • You attract match funding as each subscription will be matched by IMC so the artists receive twice the amount.
  • Regular (monthly) updates and perks including exclusive artist vlogs or diaries detailing how their music is being created from your support
  • A chance to chat and dive deeper on the creative process with the artists in an online Q&A’s.
  • Special access to podcasts discussing their music.
  • Video tour of the artist workspaces or collaborative processes.
  • You are listed as a supporter on the artists’ work in 2023
  • First looks and listens to works in progress and/or finished work
