FIVE BEFORE LIVE Q & A with Lauren Kinsella from SNOWPOET

A new Q&A section posing 5 questions to our artists before their upcoming IMC concert.

Ahead of her performance with SNOWPOET at SPECTRUM Festival 2018 on Friday 9th March (in an excting double-header with Sons of Kemet) we spoke to vocalist LAUREN KINSELLA about her music, what inspires her, and what's next for SNOWPOET. Tickets & Info here

Q 1. What motivates you, as a band/artist, to create music?

Everything really - life events, nature, friendship, solitude, what’s happening in our lives and in the world. As a band, we love working together and the music has a chance to grow the more you perform it - every gig and every audience are different.

Q 2. Who or what inspires you at the moment - be it in music, arts, politics or your personal life?

We are always checking out new music – London has a great scene and there are a lot of different bands working across multiple genres. Kit Downes has just released a beautiful solo organ album on ECM – that’s on repeat for sure!

Q 3. Can you tell us about a seminal experience, project, or encounter that had a significant impact on your career?

Rather than it being one event along our path, it’s the cumulative result of playing and working hard together for several years and great things have come out of it. The music is always first!

Q 4. Are you working on anything new at the moment? What’s next for Snowpoet?

We are just about to release our second album called Thought You Knew on Edition Records – this is coming out on Feb 9th (have a listen to their single here) and following that, we will be on an extensive tour of Ireland and the UK supported by the PRS Foundation Beyond Borders initiative, including 9th March at SPECTRUM festival in Dublin! (Full details of the Irish leg of the tour are available here).

Q 5. What direction do you see the music industry headed towards in the next 20 years?

Hopefully the continuation of new music, new sound, new connection and new experiences for both artist and listener. Music is a healing force and an essential part of our existence as communicators.

Thanks, Lauren!
