Job Opportunity: Venue Manager at The Cooler
Improvised Music Company is currently seeking candidates for a part-time contractor role as Venue Manager at The Cooler.
Job Title
Cooler Venue Manager (independent contractor, 3-days per week guaranteed, flexible timing, with some evenings and weekends required for events).
About IMC and The Cooler
Improvised Music Company (IMC), founded in 1991, is an Arts Council funded resource for Irish musicians and a specialist music promoter for jazz, ethnic and other creative music in Ireland. We produce festivals, intimate and large scale concerts of Irish and international jazz, experimental and world music artists. Today, we’re Ireland’s largest specialist music producer, with hands-on involvement in many aspects of music making throughout the island, from festival programming, concert promotion, touring, education and audience development. We also work on behalf of Irish jazz and improvising artists, assisting them in performance opportunities, knowledge of the music industry and provide resource support for their activities.
The Cooler is a landmark collaboration between Improvised Music Company and multi-disciplinary arts venue The Complex. A former Fyffes banana-ripening unit in The Complex building, amidst the fruit and vegetable market area of Dublin’s North inner city, The Cooler has been redeveloped as a new home for jazz and improvised music in the heart of Dublin 7.
Open since January 2022 as a fully-equipped, community-driven creative space for rehearsal, development and professional workshops, The Cooler is also active as an intimate, small-capacity, club-style performance space, with regular evening concerts and events.
The Candidate
We are looking for someone who can share in our vision for the Cooler and help us get there. We are looking for an individual who is a well rounded problem solver with a high degree of initiative and can demonstrate an ability to get results without endless back and forth. There are many unforeseen aspects of managing a space that we cannot plan for, so we are looking for someone who is practical, can figure things out on their own, or with the help of some YouTube videos, and can get the job done. This person must be able to wire a plug, or drill a hole as much as they can organise things - someone practical, hands-on, and resourceful, who can work independently and with guidance from the IMC team to solve any problems that arise.
Where a candidate has strong sound engineering skills and experience, there will be additional work opportunities for engineering concerts, at an additional engineer’s fee - up to approx 40 shows per year.
The Vision
Our vision for the space is that it is a well specced rehearsal space for artists that can be converted quite quickly into a performance space for paying audiences. This essentially requires 2 configurations ready at all times and a process for converting the space to suit our needs
Because the space is small, we need “a place for everything and everything in its place” mentality at all times.
We want this to be a one stop shop for recording, live music, both aurally and visually, And we want the space to have dedicated systems in place to manage different types of people: artists, audiences, other professionals.
