Ronan Guilfoyle 60 Special Concert Series
IMC are delighted to announce a special concert series this May which will celebrate the work of one of the champions of Irish Jazz, Ronan Guilfoyle. Musician, composer and educator, Guilfoyle observes this milestone by gathering a cornucopia of Irish and International talent for 4 very distinct sets of music penned, arranged or orchestrated by Guilfoyle.
“If, like me, you have been playing professionally for nearly 40 years, it's good from time time, to take stock and celebrate the journey so far. I have asked some of my best friends and colleagues in music to join me in a celebration, both of my 60th birthday, and in music itself - especially jazz music. I'm very happy to be doing this on the 9th and 10th of May in Arthur's, by celebrating my 60th birthday along with 17 of my closest colleagues. In choosing the music for this celebration I wanted to include players and projects with whom I have a long track record and I am delighted to have such a stellar cast with me over the two nights” - Ronan Guilfoyle

Things We Like - The Music of Jack Bruce
John Symon Asher "Jack" Bruce was a Scottish musician, singer and songwriter known primarily for his contributions to the British supergroup Cream. Guilfoyle credits Bruce as “probably the reason why I play the bass.” Having met him and admired his musicianship and character for many years, after Bruce passed away in 2014, Guilfoyle embarked on a project based on his music, thoroughly enjoying going through his enormous songbook, picking tunes and finding a way to do them that is both respectful to the songs while allowing for a personal response. Ronan is reunited with two of Denmark’s finest musicians, saxophonist Lars Moeller and drummer Jonas Johansen for the Divisions Project. A group created almost 10 years ago to share their love for rhythmic exploration, they have toured Scandinavia and recorded the highly acclaimed ‘Divisions’ album on the Danish RMC label. This is their first performance in Ireland, and with special guest Chris Guilfoyle, you can expect musical fireworks, playful rhythmic intrigue and great grooves. More info HERE

Both Halferty and Guilfoyle have been extremely influential figures on the Irish jazz scene over the past 40 years, not just as artists, but as composers, educators and mentors to many musicians over the years.
