With over 20 years of experience of playing improvised music together, "Beyond” is a challenge to their own musicianship, a new step beyond the borders of genre to undiscovered and intriguing. The project is a unique sound of wisdom, intelligence and intuitive interaction.

As creative artists, they share passion for experimentation and spontaneous expression, rich technical arsenals, delicate musical tastes, and many other virtues. Intellect and intuition intertwine in the duo’s music, fascinating listeners with both laconicism and depth. In 2019, the duo premiered their first album, Thousand Seconds Of Our Life, and their Beyond album in 2020. With their second album the artists are challenging themselves by breaking their creative stereotypes.

Maksimowicz / Golovanov "Understanding" Live, 2020

These versatile, seasoned musicians, close colleagues and buddies have been meeting in various projects since the start of their musical careers. They both are members of the trio Infiltrators and lecturers of the Jazz Department at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LAMT).

Dmitrij Golovanov is one of the most prominent piano players in Lithuania with great knowledge of the jazz language and a mature taste. His flexibility allows him to participate in numerous collaborations yet he has found his own sound both on acoustic piano and in the area of experimental electronics and live-sampling. His talent, skills, and expressive and profound playing style made him into a remarkable figure in the Baltics’ jazz scene. In addition to winning several local and international jazz competitions, becoming a semifinalist of Montreux Jazz and a finalist of European Jazz Competition, Dmitrij gained experience in such stages as Jazz Jamboree, London Jazz, Pori Jazz, etc.

Jan Maksimowicz is an exceptional example of a middle generation of Lithuanian Jazz musicians. Rich sound, wide technical range and vivid phrasing make him stand out from any other saxophone player. Complimented with huge experience in improvised music, Jan’s playing is open-minded and expressive if not spectacular. For the last few decades he has been an active leader of several bands as well as a sideman for some biggest names in Lithuania. Some of his collaborations include Tim Daisy, Vein trio, and the National Symphony Orchestra.
