Following on from Ronan Guilfoyle’s take on Charlie Parker and Tommy Halferty’s spin on John Scofield, Improvised Music Company’s Icons of Jazz series continues, presenting some of Ireland’s most renowned jazz musicians performing their take on the iconic musicians who have shaped jazz music in the last century. Hear long-standing favourites of the genre given thrilling life and new spins by top Irish players.

Famed saxophonist bandleader and composer John Coltrane brought fireworks of technical brilliance and a distinctive sound to his music - an ability to play several notes at once and dizzying cascades of scales making for thrillingly intense performances.

Leading Irish saxophonist Richie Buckley brings breathtaking virtuosity and unique style to a selection of Coltrane’s iconic music. A self-taught saxophone player, Buckley is internationally recognised as one of Ireland’s leading jazz performers. He has been described as "extraordinary" (Irish Times, 2001), "something of a genius… a world reputation amongst saxophonists" (Irish Times, 1999) and a musician whose "playing manages to be simultaneously passionate and gentle, romantic and elegiac." (Sunday Independent, 2001)

Buckley leads a quintet of renowned Irish jazz musicians creating a unique experience of iconic music.
