Navá at Hotter than July online
Wednesday 22nd & Saturday 25th July, 7pm

For its 7th year in 2020, Hotter than July is moving to an online space, celebrating inclusivity and diversity with music, story-telling, and creativity that is accessible to everyone from home!

From the tranquil  setting of The Space Between yoga studio, techniques of binaural recording will bring you into an immersive musical experience with acclaimed young musicians Navá.

Well-known across Ireland, Navá is a group of young musicians exploring the relationship between the ancient musical cultures of Ireland and Persia. It comprises folk/bluegrass musicians Paddy Kiernan and Niall Hughes, and Iranian-born brothers Shahab and Shayan Coohe. Their performance weaves material from the Irish and Persian traditions into a beguiling tapestry of sound.

Before their performance, band member Shahab Coohe chatted with us about the bands origins, style and influences, for our 'Other Side of the Tracks' Q&A series, which you can now read HERE

Nava is a group of young musicians exploring the relationship between the ancient musical cultures of Ireland and Persia. It is comprised of folk/bluegrass musicians Paddy Kiernan and Niall Hughes, and Iranian born brothers Shahab and Shayan Coohe.

Their debut album, ‘Tapestry’ was recorded at Hellfire Studios, an intimate studio in the Dublin Mountains, and supported by the Arts Council of Ireland. It was launched at the National Concert of Ireland, Dublin in October 2017.

Since forming in early 2016 they have also performed at Doolin Folk Festival, Electric Picnic, WOMEX, Celtic Connections and Masters of The Tradition among others.

Shahab Coohe – santoor
Niall Hughes – guitar/bass
Paddy Kiernan – banjo
Shayan Coohe – tombak/tar

"Listening to the cross-cultural blend of Nava one would think the two musical cultures of Persia and Ireland had been historically connected. They haven’t...until now. A pioneering musical collaboration."
