'Collaborating Internationally' Clinic with YDIVIDE
Each month, Improvised Music Company hosts Cooler Clinic CPD events at The Cooler at The Complex and/or online, offering musicians practical tools and conversations to strengthen their professional lives.
For this hybrid session, discussing all things international collabs, we’re delighted to welcome Clemens Kuratl ,YDIVIDE Bandleader, and members of the acclaimed Swiss-Irish-British ensemble known for their boundary-crossing music and bold conceptual vision.
Following their critically acclaimed debut album Lubumba in 2022, collaborative ensemble YDIVIDE released The Default this year, delving into themes of racial and gender bias with vibrant counterpoints, powerful unisons, and intelligent solos. The quintet brings together the best of this generation of European musicians, with pianist Elliot Galvin, saxophonist Dee Byrne, guitarist Chris Guilfoyle, bassist Lukas Traxel and drummer Clemens Kuratle.
How do you keep an ensemble alive when you don’t even live in the same country? This Cooler Clinic will explore how this collective sustains itself artistically and logistically across multiple borders—coordinating rehearsals, funding, tours, and recordings while staying rooted in a shared vision.
Topics include:
- How to build and maintain international projects over time
- Writing and rehearsing from different countries
- Booking shows, accessing funding, managing admin
- Collective artistic identity across cultures
This is a rare inside look at the backstage mechanics of a working international band at the cutting edge of European creative music.
As always, one-to-one conversations are available with the IMC team on any topic that’s concerning you at the moment, from funding applications to touring and releasing music.
Attendance is free, but registration is required. Sign up now to reserve your spot!
