Cooler Clinics: Touring Strategies

Each month, Improvised Music Company hosts Cooler Clinic CPD sessions – dedicated 1:1 consultations designed to support Irish-based jazz and improvising artists with practical, tailored advice for moving their careers forward. Artists can choose to attend online or in-person at The Cooler.

For November, the focus is on touring, with particular attention to:

  • Domestic touring: Understanding the Arts Council’s Touring of Work Scheme — what it supports, how partnerships with venues are assessed, audience development expectations, and tips for strengthening applications.
  • International touring: When and how Culture Ireland funding applies, how to pitch international tours or showcases, and what level of activity is realistically supported.
  • Pitching to venues & festivals: Building relationships with programmers, presenting a convincing tour pitch or offer, understanding how bookers think, and negotiating terms (including realistic tech and hospitality riders).
  • Green touring strategies: Practical steps towards more sustainable touring, from optimised routing and shared resources to green riders, budgeting for eco-conscious choices and integrating sustainability into funding and partnership planning.

Although this month’s theme is touring, as always your 1:1 can cover any aspect of your current career needs, including:

  • Funding applications (beyond touring)
  • Release/recording strategies
  • Artist pitches & bios
  • Digital presence and social media
  • Strategic planning or next steps
  • Budgeting and timelines
  • Anything that feels like a current roadblock

Attendance is free, but registration is required. Sign up now to reserve your spot!
