Dorothy Murphy’s Circleways
With the release of Calling (IMC), singer Dorothy Murphy has reaffirmed her stature in Irish jazz, but also pushed boldly into new creative terrain, and the CD has drawn praise from eminent sources like The JMI, who described it as "An accomplished recording debut, adventurous and evocative."
Appropriately, Circleways features musicians culled from the forefront of the Irish jazz and contemporary scenes.
Murphy has assembled a diverse group of like-minded individuals to play ethereal and richly coloured compositions by herself and collaborator Seán Óg. He also performs here on soprano saxophone and bass clarinet, joined by cellist Kate Ellis, bassist Cormac O'Brien and drummer Phil MacMullan.
