Francesco Turrisi Trio at The Cooler
Exploring the most lyrical of his music over years of composition, Grammy-award-winning pianist and multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi comes to The Cooler with an evening of richly melodic piano trio music, in collaboration with drummer Matthew Jackson and bassist Derek Whyte.
Described as a “musical alchemist” and a “musical polyglot”, by the press, Francesco Turrisi is equally at home playing with jazz veterans Dave Liebman and Bill Frisell as he is with Irish traditional sean-nós singer Roisin El Safty and with tarantella specialist Lucilla Galeazzi.
Turrisi has toured with Bobby McFerrin, played baroque operas with ensemble L'Arpeggiata, toured with The Silk Road ensemble, interpreted the music of Steve Reich with Bang on a Can All Stars, accompanied flamenco star Pepe El Habichuela and Greek singer Savina Yannatou.
He has released five critically acclaimed albums as a leader and two as co-leader (“Tarab” a cross boundary innovative ensemble that blends Irish and Mediterranean traditional music, and “Zahr” a project that looks at connections between southern Italian traditional music and Arabic music).
His latest piano solo album “Northern Migrations” was described as “delicate, wistful and wholly engrossing” by the Irish Times.
Since 2018 he collaborates with American grammy award winning singer and multi-instrumentalist Rhiannon Giddens, on a duo project that seamlessly combines music from the Mediterranean with music from the African diaspora in the Americas. In 2019 Giddens and Turrisi released their critically acclaimed duo album “there is no Other”. The album single “I’m on my way” was nominated for a 2020 Grammy Award. Their 2021 second duo album “They’re calling me home” was nominated for two Grammy awards and won as best folk album at the 2022 Grammy awards.
The Cooler is located upstairs at The Complex Arts Centre, 12 Mary's Abbey Dublin 7. The entrance to The Cooler is through the same door as The Depot at The Complex, on the Mary's Abbey side of the building, where the LUAS tracks run. The building has a red wall on the left hand side of a front plaza that has a sign reading 'The Complex', and a blue wall facing the front plaza that has a sign reading 'The Complex - Art Lives Here'.
The plaza in front of The Complex is used by the surrounding businesses and is often full of fruits, vegetables or delivery vehicles. You can still access The Cooler at these times.
Above the blue door, you'll see a painted sign for The Depot. The Cooler is marked by a small sign between the main glass doors (sometimes covered by blue shutters) and a blue artist's door. The glass doors will be open for performances from door times (usually 7:30pm).
The Cooler cannot be accessed from the Arran St East side of The Complex - this is the entry for the Gallery and artist studios only. If you have any trouble locating the Cooler please give Caitriona a call on 087 783 3391.
To find the Cooler Google Maps, search for The Cooler or The Depot at The Complex (the main performance space downstairs at The Complex). If you find the address for just The Complex, it will generally will bring you to the gallery on Arran St East.
The performance space is up two flights of stairs and may be difficult to access for patrons with additional mobility needs. The space is fully seated. Gender-neutral toilet facilities are available upstairs (a few steps up from the level of The Cooler). Baby-changing facilities are available at The Gallery, downstairs at The Complex (using the Arran St entrance).

The red line of the LUAS runs very close to The Cooler, taking the stop at Jervis St or at Four Courts. Many different bus lines run to Ormond Quay, Inns Quay, or Church Street, which are all a couple of streets away from The Cooler.
There is unfortunately no customer parking available at The Complex. During the day, a small gated Dublin City Council car park can be accessed on Marys' Lane around the corner, at standard rates. Jervis Shopping Centre Car Park is also close by, with varying opening hours. Some street parking is available nearby - days and rates vary, please check signs.

Venezuelan/Irish pianist and composer Leopoldo Osio is considered one of the strongest pianists on the Irish Jazz scene. His style combines his Latin American roots with an original rhythmic voice deeply rooted in the Jazz legacy .
He has attended Music Colleges in Venezuela, Brazil and Ireland, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Performance (Hons) in 2010. He also performed and toured with some of his country’s most accomplished musicians, prior to moving to Ireland.
One of the highlights of his career includes a performance with his own band CEO Experiment along with Kurt Rosenwinkel and Michael Buckley in front of a full house at the Sugar Club in Dublin.
Performances with International Artists include Kurt Rosenwinkel, Curtis Fowlkes, Paul Booth, Ryan Quigley, Cyrille Aimee, Nicolas Folmer, Pierre Bertrand and have shared the stage with some of the greatest contemporary Jazz acts such as Christian Scott, Cory Henry and Tom Rainey.
Over the last decade, he has performed and also been part of numerous projects in Ireland such as CEO Experiment, Ronan Guilfoyle's Tudo Bem, Conor Guilfoyle's Havana Che and Conclave, Paul Dunlea Quintet, Michael Buckley's residence at Bruxelles, Phisqa, Dublin City Jazz Orchestra, Next Experiment among many others.
