Francesco Turrisi Trio - Limerick

Francesco Turrisi - Piano

Sean Carpio - Drums

Dan Bodwell - Double Bass

Delightful, unusual, decidedly un-Irish jazz.” – The Sunday Tribune

Turin born Francesco Turrisi was formerly harpsichordist with acclaimed baroque ensemble l’Arpeggiata, experience he has put to productive use since becoming firmly established in Ireland. These days he’s a pivotal member of Balkan group Yurodny and also leads Tarab, a small group experimenting with different elements of Irish traditional, Mediterranean and medieval music. In piano trio with bassist Dan Bodwell and drummer Sean Carpio, these elements are further expanded on and their debut CD Si Dolce È Il Tormento'in was released this year to widespread acclaim. Described by The Irish Times as ‘exquisite', the music is imbued with the reflective aesthetic of the great German label ECM whilst drawing inspiration from early music and Italian folk melodies. Its further evidence of the abundant creativity at work from this open minded and lyrical pianist.
