GIJF 11: 12 Points! at Gateshead

The Sage Gateshead are pleased to present some of the performers featured at 12 Points! Festivals in Dublin and Norway. Over the last five years the 12 Points! Festival, having originated in Ireland, has carved out a niche as a key showcase for Europe’s best emerging jazz artists.

From France: Donkey Monkey

French pianist Eve Risser and Japanese drummer Yuko Oshima are Donkey Monkey. An unpredictable band who sometimes break into song, like to subvert jazz convention, and are especially fond of stride piano grooves and big beats from the Japanese rock scene.

From Norway: Mari Kvien Brunvoll

Performing solo, the Norwegian singer captivates with a personal expression that straddles jazz, electro-pop and acoustic blues; making use of loops and thumb pianos, adding detail to an intimate, soulful soundworld.

From Leeds, UK: trioVD

No introduction is necessary for Leeds' standard bearers trioVD, featuring Gateshead born Chris Sharkey. Confrontational, uninhibited and clever, their use of volatile materials is invigorating.
