Hugh Buckley & Jim Mullen, Pendulum, Dublin

Hugh Buckley may be among the more unassuming guitarists on the Irish scene, but his resume of international associations speaks volumes for the esteem in which he's held elsewhere. This engaging and creative soloist has worked with Georgie Fame, Peter Bernstein, Scott Hamilton, Peter Washington and his late and dear friend, pianist James Williams. Of late, soul and gospel nuances are increasingly to the fore, idioms with which Glasgow's funkiest export Jim Mullen is intimately familiar, gleaned from a lifetime on the road with groups like AWB, Jimmy Witherspoon and Terry Callier, with whom he's playing the Electric Picnic. Stylistically hewn from similar rock as the Dubliner, with a penchant for the chordal and linear approach of bop masters like Wes Montgomery, This great guitarist will be right at home in Aungier Street, in a swinging band that also includes bassist Dan Bodwell and Kevin Brady.
