Irish jazz says -talk to my agent!
2006 is proving an annus mirabilis for Irish jazz, and not just for the number of visits by international performers.
With a plethora of domestic releases by working groups, commissions for emerging composers, international signings and the conferral of Ireland’s first jazz performance graduates, Irish jazz is poised for an international breakthrough of its own.
Hot on the heels of this creative momentum comes IMC Artists, a new initiative from Ireland’s leading producer of jazz and related music, Improvised Music Company with the support of Culture Ireland and The Arts Council. This new agency is the first of its kind in Ireland, and has assembled a roster of twelve working bands that reflects the broad but very creative church of today’s Irish jazz.
All this talent will be coralled under one roof for live showcases on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd November at Dublin’s Project, for a wonderful opportunity to hear the breadth and diversity within this vibrant and upwardly mobile sphere of Irish music making.
Friday 3rd November
Magical duets from Halferty & Nielsen; Candid Record’s latest signing, vocalist Cormac Kenevey with the Phil Ware Trio; hip originals from young turks White Rocket; blues in the best possible taste from Nigel Mooney’s Hip Operation; and Argentinian folk meets classical accordion with Dunne & Hernandez.
A limited number of tickets are available for these special Irish jazz evenings at €15/€10 (conc) through the Project box office ph: 01 881 9613/14.
There will be a pre-show reception from 6pm with showcases start at 7pm sharp.
