Jazz at Wood Quay Summer Sessions
Music fans have plenty to look forward to this Summer, as Dublin City Council are bringing you an incredible series of free weekly lunchtime music sessions for the month of July.
Grab your lunch and your friends and come down to the beautifully renovated Civic Offices Amphitheatre every Thursday in July from 1 – 2pm.
Programmed in association with IMC, First Music Contact, Music Network and The Contemporary Music Centre, there’s something for everyone from jazz to rock to contemporary classical, from some of Ireland’s best up and coming, and established acts.
Kicking off Thursday 5th July with acts presented by Music Network, be sure to come along the following Thursday 12th July for some excellent outdoor jazz presented by IMC:
Parallel Society
Jan Henrik Rau - guitar, pedals and composition / Yuzuha O'Halloran - alto sax/bass clarinet / Luke Howard - piano & synthesizer / Eoin O'Halloran - bass / Hugh Denman - drums
“Their sound invokes wonderfully deep ambiance while at the same time containing thoughtful lyrical lines. Exceptionally well constructed music with a genuine appeal to a broad church of jazz fans.” Dominic Reilly, dublinjazz.ie
Parallel Society is a Dublin based contemporary music quintet that features some of the most exciting young musicians of the irish improvised music scene. Their sound comprehends powerful improvisation and combines it with carefully constructed compositional parts. The result is true original music that resists categorisation.

Aoife Doyle Band
Aoife Doyle - vocals / Johnny Taylor - piano/keyboards / Andrew Csibi - double bass / Dominic Mullan - percussion
“Doyle’s singing is coming from a deeper, more natural place too, with a feeling for the blues learnt from Billie Holiday and the rare ability to improvise vocally…Her swinging quartet includes some of the best young players on the Dublin Scene.” - The Irish Times
Aoife Doyle’s unique, expressive voice is equally at home with jazz, folk, country, bluegrass or blues, and her singing can evoke memories of the sophisticated, velvet tones of Ella Fitzgerald, the earthy, sweet lyricism of Patsy Cline or the straight-up country clarity of Alison Krauss. Backed by Johnny Taylor’s subtle piano, Andrew Csibi’s inventive bass and Dominic Mullan’s sensitive percussion, the band has won much deserved critical acclaim.
