Kate McGarry
"Beautifully poised interpretations…As a jazz singer McGarry's the real deal, without recalling anyone else." – The Irish Times.
Among the many international visitors to The Pendulum over its ten year history, this first performance from US vocalist Kate McGarry may well rank among the most memorable. On the cusp of major international recognition, she's an extravagantly gifted singer who combines the easy naturalism of the folk idiom with the facility of a great jazz instrumentalist. Drawing freely from the well of popular song, be it Bjork, Joni Mitchell or Broadway standards, she's currently the only vocalist signed to influential US Label Palmetto. Recent projects have included duets with Bobby McFerrin on Chick Corea's Rendezvous DVD, and singing alongside Kurt Elling in Leaves of Grass, Fred Hersch's acclaimed musical settings of the poems of Walt Whitman. Every good singer needs a sympathetic accompanist and for her Dublin debut she performs in duo with her partner, guitarist Keith Ganz, along with some very special guests from the Dublin scene.
