Matt Halpin Quintet

Matt Halpin is heading off to Berklee School of Music after becoming the first Irish musician to receive a full scholarship, so this might be one of a handful of opportunities to hear this exciting, emerging talent on the Irish jazz scene, before imminent departure for Boston. Eight years of classical saxophone study at the academy have already served him well, with a strong technical foundation and an evolving sense of line and harmony that belies his tender years. Much the same could be said of Karl-Henrik Ousback, the sixteen year old drummer from Stockholm who Halpin hooked up with at the Sligo Jazz Project. Seasoned pianist Justin Carroll, guitarist Scott Kohlmann and bassist James Little complete the picture, in this debut as leader for one of our musicians of the future.
