Nathan Berg Quartet

On the release of US bassist Nathan Berg's debut album in 1992, eminence grise Leonard Feather was moved to declare “18-year old wunderkind Nathan Berg is a bass phenomenon." Berg went on to tour extensively with Maynard Ferguson in the mid 90's, one of many performing landmarks that includes outings with John Scofield, Clark Terry, Terence Blanchard, and JJ Johnson.

Music wasn't his only muse however, and today he's carving out an equally formidable reputation in the academic field. He's currently a faculty member at the University of Texas, Dallas where his students delight in the professor who “sings politics, lectures economics”.

Appearing at the Pendulum for the last leg of the IMC's RTS supported Irish tour, this new collaborative quartet performs Berg’s original compositions and arrangements with support from Hague based Colm O’Hara in the exploration of the dark timbres of bass and trombone, with the inventive piano (Johnny Taylor) and drums (George Urich).
