Every musical journey has to start somewhere and, if you’re open to new musical experiences, then OpenJazz 06 on Sunday 19th March in Temple Bar is the place to be. OpenJazz is a free event and everyone is welcome, particularly families and young people of all ages. There'll be performances throughout the day from the best in new and established Irish jazz groups, taking you on a guided tour of its rich history, from blues to bebop and beyond.
Jazz is also fast becoming the global language of music education, and Ireland’s leading players will be showing how its done.

performance degree programme, the first of its kind in Ireland.
14.00: Quarteto Latino, Temple Bar Music Centre
Visiting
Cuban pianist Vladimir Karell goes mano a mano with Dublin's best salsa players
in a latin jazz workout, Havana style.
14.15: Mike Nielsen, Meeting House Square
Ireland's most
original jazz guitarist, with his unique rhythmic and harmonic concept in an
acoustic tour de force solo performance.
15.00: White Rocket, Temple Bar Music Centre
Sensational
and adventurous new trio featuring the exceptional drummer Sean Carpio with
pianist Greg Felton and visiting US trumpeter Jacob Wick.
15.15: Fuzzy Logic & The Ballymun Wind Band

Brand new music for 40 musicians from Ireland's finest young
composer and his quirky working group, with very special guests from D9!
16.00: Honor Heffernan & The Phil Ware Trio, Temple Bar
Music Centre
A match made in heaven, Ireland’s finest vocal interpreter of
the jazz standard with its hardest swinging piano trio.
16.15: The Company, Meeting House Square
The roots of
funk are in jazz, and The Company is a grooving seven piece with vocals and horn
section that bring it all back home.
17.00: Keith Copeland Trio, Temple Bar Music
Centre
Legendary US drummer whose resume includes everyone from Stevie Wonder
to George Russell, dishing out the seismic swing with his Irish trio.
14.00 - 17.00: OpenJazz Introductory Workshops, Temple Bar
Music Centre
Leading Irish musicians will give informal workshops thoughout
the day, demonstrating the various roles and techniques of jazz instruments
including bass, drums, guitar, voice, saxophone, brass and percussion. Workshops
are 40 minutes, no musical experience is required, and everyone is welcome,
especially younger people.

jazz from music tuition, introductory classes and degree courses.
* Fuzzy Logic with Ballymun Wind Band Project and musicians from Alexandra College, Milltown, will premiere History Revision, an extended piece from Dylan Rynhart commissioned and funded by Breaking Ground 2, Ballymun Regeneration Company’s Commissioning Scheme. The Ballymun Windband Project is a DIT Community Links Programme initiative.
