Protea @ Pendulum

Protea is one of the many new groups to look forward to throughout 2008, as Dublin reaches a tipping point of young, motivated and very able musicians. An amalgam of established groups like Jalapeno Diplomacy and Kai Big Band, The five elements here are Derek White (el bass), Nick Roth (sax), Joe O’Callaghan (guitar), Justin Carroll (keys) and Matt Jacobson (drums). They’ve come together to investigate the new rhythmic horizons opened up by composers like Steve Coleman and Vijay Ayer, whose influences permeate Protea’s original compositions.
