Simon Jermyns Big Problem

Whatever the problem is, Simon Jermyn has assembled some heavy weight musical grey matter to solve it, enlisting saxophonist Michael Buckley and drummer Sean Carpio for what will be a first performance together.

They’ll be applying themselves to music by Ornette Colemen and Paul Motian, in addition to Jermyn’s own deceptively engaging compositions, which can be heard on his forthcoming debut release on Barcelona’s Fresh Sound label, and featuring Chris Speed. These days, Jermyn is sounding very at home on electric bass, augmenting the instrument’s linear role with loops and chordal washes, in this new group that harvests the abundant resources where form and freedom meet.
