WAX ON #2 Nina Simone
Presented in association with The Record Spot, Dublin, WAX ON is both a listening party, placing the needle in the groove of a collection of favourite jazz albums, as well as an intimate space for story-telling and reflections.
For the second installment of our WAX ON series, we will be delving into the music and life of the great Nina Simone.
NINA SIMONE WAX ON #2
One of the most extraordinary artists of the twentieth century, Nina Simone spent a glorious career refusing to be pigeonholed. She was the consummate musical storyteller who used her remarkable talent to create a legacy of liberation, empowerment, passion, and love through a magnificent body of works.
Earning the title of the ‘High Priestess of Soul’, Nina’s rich, deep velvet vocal tones, combined with her mastery of the piano, gave her a widespread appeal to music fans of all genres. She was a wonderfully versatile artist whose immense talent allowed her to write and interpret a mix of jazz, blues, gospel, and folk music.
Nina’s incredible work in music, as well as her role as one of the leading voices of the Civil Rights Movement, made her a true icon of american culture. Nina Simone left a lasting impression on the world of music, art and activism. She sang to share her truth, and her work still resonates with great emotion and power.
