Budapest's A.M.P. Trio kick off Thursday evening. A creative piano trio with a truly experimental style. The free jazz scene in Hungary is teeming with talent at the moment, and A.M.P. trio are an example of the energy and appetite for improv amongst Magyar jazz musicians.
Next up is Berlin based solo pianist Elias Stemeseder. Although still in his mid 20’s, his improvisational talents have garnered the attention of of some of the idioms respected musicians and since 2008 has played in a trio with US avant-garde musician and drummer Jim Black. More recently he has turned his attention to solo piano and with an impressive stint already under his belt as sideman Stemeseder is now coming into his own and looks set to bloom.
The last performance at Project Arts on Thursday comes from Helsinki trio Virta. For a bassless trio, Virta create a huge soundscape; expressive, avant garde & eminently fresh. Their playing is characterized by skillful musicianship and inventive use of electronic effects, with occasional atmospheric vocals.
Showcase Club // Sweeney's // 11pm
On Thursday night The CEO Experimentkick off The Showcase Club at 11pm in Sweeney’s on Dame St. This excellent Dublin based trio of Leopoldo Osio on keys, Cote Calmet on drums and Peter Erdei on electric bass play a set of post-bop and contemporary jazz, channeled through original compositions and a reworking of standards, with creative improvisations and high energy interplay.
Followed by an all-inclusive jam session 'til late.
