Cormac Kenevey performs at Nafplion Jazz Festival

Improvised Music Company are excited to announce that critically-acclaimed Dublin jazz singer Cormac Kenevey will this year be performing at Greece’s Nafplion Jazz Festival, taking place at the end of June 2019.

Historic Nafplion in the Peloponnese is the place to be in the end of June. In its twenty-eighth year, and having been awarded as the best festival of its kind by the association of Music Critics of Greece, Nafplion Festival brings top quality music to the beautiful surroundings of this historic seaport town.

Under Artistic Director, pianist Janis Vakarelis, the festival features a panorama of unique musical performances staged at some of the city’s major venues: Vouleftikon - the first Hellenic Parliament, Aghios Yeorgios Square - the courtyard of St. George’s church, Aghios Spyridon church and eighteenth-century Palamidi Castle.

From an initial career as a software consultant, Cormac Kenevey followed his musical dreams to release his first album on the CANDID label in 2006 - This is Living, a collaboration with the exceptionally talented Dublin stalwart Phil Ware and his Trio. This was followed in 2009 by his second album The Art of Dreaming. His tour dates have included locations in London (Ronnie Scott's, Pizza Express Dean St), around Europe, and as far afield as Abu Dhabi and Mexico, besides which he has found the time to complete a Masters in Jazz Vocal Performance.

He released his latest album Turning Skies in 2018. Described as having ‘an authenticity that reaches beyond the usual jazz cliches’ [Irish Times], the new record pays tribute to the stylings of his many influencers as a jazz singer and features new lyrics to music by Brad Mehldau and Irish composer Julien Colarossi. The band features the wonderful Johnny Taylor (piano) Damian Evans (bass) and Dominic Mullan (drums).
