IMC and Dublin City Council present Jazz at The Smithfield Sessions

Join IMC for Jazz at The Smithfield Sessions on Sunday November 13th!

Dublin City Council presents The Smithfield Sessions in Smithfield Square for people of all ages to discover emerging musicians from rock, pop, jazz, classical, Irish traditional and contemporary music genres on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th November from 12 noon to 6pm in Smithfield Square, Dublin 7.

With a long history of partnering for the WoodQuay Summer Sessions, Improvised Music Company (IMC) is delighted to once again join forces with its colleagues at Dublin City Council, First Music Contact, Contemporary Music Centre and Music Network to bring The Smithfield Sessions to Dublin City. A pop-up indoor venue will give people an opportunity to attend interactive and creative workshops from 12pm each day, followed by stunning and diverse musical performances from 2pm until 6pm. IMC present a dedicated jazz programme as part of this on Sunday 13th November.

Aleka, a wonderful jazz vocalist, brings over 20 years of music education to the stage with her outstanding bossa nova style band. Matthew Halpin Group will showcase inventive and captivating saxophone improvisation with a highly skilled and sought-after live band. Both artists are part of IMC's 30/30 Mentorship Programme. IMC will also be curating an Introduction to Improvisation workshop with the brilliantly daring musicians Lina Andonovska and Izumi Kimura. These events take place on Sunday November 13th from 12pm- 6pm, and more information on IMC's events at The Smithfield Sessions is available here.

Saturday performances will feature 'Sound Out' new music with composers Aoife Kavanagh & Paul Scully in collaboration with The Contemporary Music Centre. Music Network will present Woven Kin featuring Aisling Urwin and Siobhán Moore, in addition to a traditional ensemble led by TG4 Young Musician of the Year Diarmuid Ó Meachair. Workshops across the weekend also include a composition workshop by Aine Mallon, a drumming workshop with Micháel Quinn (Dermot Kennedy’s drummer) and group music-making with fiddle player Zoë Conway and bouzouki player Dónal Lunny.

Be sure to join us at Smithfield Square on November 13th. These concerts and workshops are all free admission and everybody is welcome!
