IMC announces Arts Centre Residency programme
Improvised Music Company is pleased to announce a new Music Residency programme, 'Navigator' in 2021, partnering with four renowned Arts Centres to provide artist residency and community engagement opportunities for 4 Irish-based composers working in the field of jazz and improvised music.
The venue partners are cross-country, encompassing each of the four provinces; The Source Arts Centre, Thurles, An Grianán in Letterkenny, The Courthouse in Tinahely, Co. Wicklow, and Ballina Arts Centre in Mayo.
Through ongoing dialogue between IMC, the venues and the selected artists, a bespoke residency programme will be designed and delivered to assist in creating new work, new interactions, new collaborations, while also deepening the artists sense of place and space through an experience which is ultimately reflected in new interactions and outputs.
This exciting new residency opportunity is in line with IMC's commitment to further developing the national scene for jazz and improvised music, improving artist touring mobility, developing audiences nationwide, and developing creative opportunities for musicians.
IMC Director Kenneth Killeen says;
We are thrilled to launch this residency programme which is designed to increase national mobility of artists, giving them the space and time to develop new work while engaging directly with our peers in communities throughout the country. Ultimately, we hope to increase engagement for jazz and creative improvised music throughout the island, working together with our partners to bring this music to new audiences and develop a sustainable touring circuit across the island for Irish jazz musicians.
The artists will have a professionally-remunerated opportunity, with dedicated time and space to develop and perform work over the 10 day residency period.
The first residency will take place in late April in The Source, Thurles with the selected artist to be announced soon
