Izumi Kimura and Cora Venus Lunny Commissioned Collaboration
Izumi Kimura & Cora Venus Lunny Commission and performance premiere at BAN BAM on 25th November.
IMC is excited to present an exclusive live collaboration between acclaimed contemporary improvising musicians, pianist Izumi Kimura and violinist Cora Venus Lunny at BAN BAM festival this Saturday 25th November.
Specially commissioned for a premiere at BAN BAM, Kimura and Lunny are both highly regarded musicians and composers, both having excelled in the classical field and expanded adventurously into the the world of jazz and improvised music.
Cora Venus Lunny is an improvising violinist, violist, vocalist and composer with a strong classical background and extensive experience in many genres especially contemporary classical, improvised and folk music. Cora released a solo album on the Diatribe label in 2014, and is also part of the Yurodny Ensemble, performing contemporary interpretations of traditional music alongside new works.
Born in Japan, pianist Izumi Kimura moved to Ireland after graduating from Toho School of Music. Classically trained, she has since worked with many of the top names in contemporary and improvised music and perform all over the world. Kimura is considered one of the top improvising musicians in Ireland, the Irish Times has praised her “heroic level of technical fearlessness”.
“Explosively positive” is how Izumi has described the experience of working with Lunny on this collaborative project for BAN BAM over the past two months, with great enthusiasm from both artists to continue the relationship beyond their debut performance on Saturday 25th November.
